Customer Support Engineer

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • To provide first and second line technical  support to the international client base, distributors, users and operators. A customer facing role that requires a broad-based technical      understanding including networking (IP, Wi-Fi, GSM and serial protocol),  digital and analogue electronics, mechanics, control systems, Windows,   Linux and iOS operating systems. Also assisting with technical sales and product training.

  • Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting  customers through remote diagnosis and deciding strategies on how to      proceed with repairs/support.

  • Learn about the company products and working applications to be able to provide first and second line support to clients and users.

  • Provide  customer training both in-house and at customer sites.

  • Liaising with the Engineering department to provide continuous feedback in order to      improve product design and reliability.

  • There  will be some requirement to assist with day to day activities, commensurate with your capabilities, within the company, particularly      Repairs and Test departments.

  • Working through a list of prioritised support tickets to provide an efficient and professional service to end users.

  • Supporting field services, in a ‘hands-on’ role that may require international travel.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Engineering,  Science degree, or equivalent

  • Good  background of maths and physics

  • Problem solving mind-set

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering

  • Basic knowledge of networking, operating systems (Windows, Linux and iOS).

  • Excellent self-organisation skills and ability to manage priorities

  • Good understanding of technical English

  • Abilityto work on own initiative in order to develop the team.

  • Computer literate

Desirable

  • Experience in a research environment.

  • Experience of providing support externally to an international client base.

  • Interest in Earth Science

  • Detailed knowledge in Windows and Linux administration and support.

  • Detailed  knowledge of networking (IP / Wi-Fi / GSM / serial).

  • Knowledge of programming in at least one language.

  • Practical knowledge of electrical troubleshooting methods and equipment.

  • Familiarity with sampling theory and      cybernetics (control theory).
