Systems Design Engineer
Our client based in Derby is looking to recruit a Systems Design Engineer. The role will suit an individual looking for an opportunity to develop their career within a fast paced organisation at the cutting edge of off highway vehicle design and development.
Job Description
Selecting suitable powertrain components to develop a propulsion system to meet the machine & territory requirements using
Diesel, Electric, Hydrogen or Hybrid Systems
CVT, Hydrostatic, Electric or Power shift Transmissions & Axles
The design, specification, validation & delivery of the following systems & sub components;
Under bonnet thermal management systems (Cooling pack including fan drive system)
Induction / filtration systems
Fuel System
Exhaust / After treatment System
Associated Mounting / interfacing systems
Braking Systems
Responsibilities:
3D concept design
2D drafting and support prototype / production release of components
Executing analysis / calculations i.e. CFD, FEA, cooling calcs, stress/strain, component life etc.
· Support engineering sign-off requirements via the use of DFMEA’s & DVP’s.
· Compiling engineering sign-off data
Support development of design standards & test procedures, rig operation, test equipment etc.
Support the generation of timing plans, technical requirements & costs
Interpreting and using test data and analysis techniques results correctly
Work with cross functional teams
Supporting continuous improvement initiative
Support cost reduction and quality improvements
Liaise with internal and external suppliers to develop design briefs / design solutions / validations plans & delivery plans.
Championing projects and chair meetings to ensure smooth and effective management
Support reviews & generate documentation to prove the machine meets the latest legislation requirements.
Support the creation of system and component specifications and design (cascaded from programme targets) – using/commissioning the relevant analysis tools to support data driven design decisions.
Resolve engineering issues using recognised methodologies.
Support achievement of business’s quality and warranty targets
Coordination with other functional areas, such as programme teams, purchasing, quality, other development teams.
The ideal candidate will:
Demonstrate creativity and innovation
Have a positive can do attitude
Have a degree in an associated mechanical engineering discipline, with a sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles (showing an attention to detail, and being data driven).
Have an understanding of powertrain system / architecture.
Have awareness of cost implications for full component life cycle
Be competent with systems and procedures of the department e.g. CAD / SOPs
Demonstrates and have whole machine / system knowledge. Has ability (not just technical) to advise and influence other engineers though knowledge and expertise.
Be capable of working from engineering brief as well as arrangement models
Capable of presenting to groups of people both formally and informally in a confident effective manner.
