Hours 40hrs per week, Monday - Friday 8:30-5:30 (1-hour unpaid lunch break)

Flexibility required for overtime or Saturday working. 20 days holiday per annum plus Bank Holidays

Our Client is a registered charity that operates an Independent Special School and a

Specialist College, supporting children and young people who have additional needs and mental health conditions. We have recently secured new buildings and are in the process of moving and preparing new sites in Basingstoke and Hook, Hampshire. We are looking for a versatile, reliable and skilled Site Manager to keep the new buildings in excellent condition and ensure the health and safety of all who work and learn at the clients sites.

Main Responsibilities:

● Be responsible for performing and accurately recording all required servicing and maintenance checks of heating, air conditioning and utilities across two sites, management of plant rooms.

● Maintain clean, tidy, safe and secure environments at all times, including the grounds.

● Carry out routine maintenance and repairs of furniture, fittings and equipment. Identify and arrange replacement of items that cannot be repaired.

● Contact, book and supervise external contractors when necessary, ensuring safe working practices are adhered to when on site.

● Maintain regular liaison with the cleaning team to ensure standards are met and personally undertake additional cleaning duties when required (including outside areas and car parks).

● Be responsible for painting and decorating when necessary.

● Maintain the car parking and refuse areas.

● Accepting and distributing deliveries of goods.

● Maintain accurate records of duties and tasks performed, reporting regularly to the Business Manager.

● Monitor and implement all elements of the Health and Safety Policy in accordance with premises requirements and any legislative/Ofsted guidance, including the risk assessment process under the direction of the Heads of School / College and Business Manager.

○ Ensure that record keeping is rigorous and robust and in accordance with legislative guidance in the area of Health and Safety.

○ Ensure the safety of the sites and the people on it at all times.

○ Ensure that all valuable equipment is secure as appropriate

○ Responsible for maintaining records of any hazardous materials on the school and college sites and ensuring that Health and Safety guidelines are followed.

○ To attend or deliver any relevant training for staff in the area of Health and Safety

Person Specification:

Essential skills and experience:

•  Good maths and written English.

● Excellent record keeping.

● Knowledge and experience of Health and Safety management in the workplace.

● Knowledge of workplace fire safety management.

● Building maintenance experience.

● DIY, painting and decorating experience.

Desirable skills and experience:

•  Site management or School caretaking experience. ● Knowledge of security, including alarm systems.

● Experience of managing and working with contractors.

● Maintaining statutory checks e.g fire safety, legionella.

● Understanding of mental health conditions and additional needs. 

● Management of Apprentices.


●  Ability to work flexibly, independently and as part of a team. ● Ability to work under pressure, plan, organise and prioritise.

● Ability to follow instruction and report back appropriately.

●  To undertake other duties as reasonably deemed appropriate by the Line Manager for the role or other senior management.

Working Conditions:

Job Characteristics 

Physical work. Working within office and teaching environments across two education sites, one based inBasingstoke & Hook.

Liaising with managers, landlords, external contractors, students and members of the public.

Display Screen Equipment  



You must be able to meet travel requirements of the post and have use of your own transport to travel between the two sites as required, mileage will be reimbursed as per the Staff travel policy.
