Job Title: Electronics Test Engineer (Part-time)

Job Description

 

The main duties are to test and fault-find newly manufactured electronics assemblies, carry out some simple assembly of complete units and repair in-service equipment.

 

The work involves following a written test procedure to carry out a series of non-automated tests using standard test equipment and if discrepancies are found, undertaking fault-finding to identify and then fix the cause of the problem.

Production is fairly small-scale, typical batch size is 25 of any one unit.

 

We may also ask you to assist in putting together kits of parts for building new batches of electronics boards.

 

There will also be occasional involvement with new products development, typically building and assisting in testing of prototypes and construction of test rigs.

 

In common with many smaller hi-tech companies we expect people to show some reasonable flexibility about the work they are asked to carry.

 

All work is carried out at our premises in Aldershot.

 

Skills/Experience Required

 

  • will need to have considerable prior experience of electronics testing and fault-finding using non-automated methods on analogue and digital circuits.  Experience with testing & fault-finding analogue video circuits would be an advantage.
  • understanding of basic theory of AC, DC and logic.
  • some grasp of time and frequency domain concepts
  • familiarity with standard test equipment including

- oscilloscopes

- signal generators

- network & spectrum analysers

- power supplies

  • ability to follow electronics circuit schematics and B.O.M.s
  • some understanding of common electronic components and their characteristics, eg capacitors, resistors, inductors etc.
  • ability to think logically and make deductions based on results of measurements and understanding of circuit function.
  • some skills with range of light-duty hand tools.
  • good skills at hand-rework of modern high density electronics assemblies including fine pitch devices but BGA re-work is not required.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating system and software particularly MS Word, Excel, Adobe for simple tasks.
  • good command of written English including electronics-related terminology and must be able to communicate easily in spoken English.
  • small company so must be highly self-disciplined and able to work efficiently without need for continuous supervision.
  • part-time, around 25 to 30 hours pw. Specific working times to be agreed.
