What is a c.v?
A Curriculum Vitae (c.v.) or resumé is an essential tool for candidates when looking for suitable employment. A c.v. documents your education, qualifications and employment history. This is your first opportunity to sell yourself to a prospective employer and depending on the quality of your c.v will depend on whether the employer decides to interview you.
Writing a c.v
We would suggest that your c.v should be 2 to 3 pages in length, typed on a computer or word processor in black ink on white paper using simple fonts. Each section should have a clearly defined heading which should include:-
- Personal Details
- Qualifications
- Further Education
- Career Summary
- Employment History (In chronological order)
- Hobbies & Interests
- References
It is suggested that when you have compiled your c.v you check it for any grammar or spelling mistakes.
Other useful tips
- When providing information on your employment history give as much information on your most recent job providing information on your relevant skills to the job you're after.
- Send a covering letter accompanying your c.v. highlighting your relevant skills for the position you are applying for.
- Always remember to put your name and contact details on your c.v. (We have received c.v's without these).
